He doesn't discuss why his P4 is dead. The very low gate-oxide thickness Intel is using even at .18 likely makes it very susceptible to even a minor overvoltage.

It may also be that one of the reasons Intel doesn't seem to be gaining much going from .18 aluminum to .13 copper is that their gate oxide thickness at .18 was already (to paraphrase the Intellabees) close to .13 levels - meaning that they'd already "used up" most of the gains they were expecting from .13.

It's kind of interesting that, after all the crowing from Intel that AMD had already seen the gains from .13 because their gates were shorter than Intel's, the reality is that (according to impartial 3rd party analysis) both companies were using the same gate lengths at .18, but Intel had already gone to thinner oxides - "using up" what otherwise would have been an expected gain from moving to .13.
