[Mine dips into the low 40's when I run, but never sub 40]

wow, mine goes way up! my HRM usually shows 140 when i run.

LOL! You're the one who brought up "resting pulse" - so of course that is what I was making reference to in my statement. When I'm in training to run a marathon, those 6 months end up with my resting pulse in the low 40's as race day approaches. I have no idea what the actual pulse during physical road running is.

that much running is really hard to keep up and takes its toll on the body. ultimately i decided it was counterproductive from a lifetime fitness perspective.

Ask my knees all about it. Tennis is a meniscus wrecker as well. After 25 years of long distance running, my right knee finally took the gas about two weeks ago on the basketball court as I pivoted with a hyper-extended leg. Here it is one week after the surgery and I'm walking without crutches, but I imagine the other knee's day is coming. I may have to take up something serious like golf to get in shape. ;-)

bike riding strikes me as time-consuming and somewhat dangerous, although it's a big sport in this town, home of Lance Armstrong. Lance has got to be one of the most aerobically fit individuals ever. not to mention mentally tough.

I thought he lives in France now. We saw two days of the tour this summer while on vacation in France. Armstrong is more than mentally tough and fit. He's got that something special that is as rare as it gets. His tolerance for pain in the mountain climbs never ceases to amaze.

i wouldn't know off hand, but who said anything about eating a pint in one sitting.

I thought that was the only way to consume Ben and Jerry's.
