wbmw, you are confused or you are trying to confuse me. If XPs were not selling well through OEMs then AMD would be desperate and the prices on pricewatch would be in a nosedive. We know for a fact that all wafer starts for quite a while have been palomino only. I think what we're seeing is the transition. The Tbirds are getting cleared out and are in short supply hence their pricing is going up, and the OEMs are building XP systems for Xmas. In order to get Systems to retail shelves in the next 2-3 weeks they must have gotten their chips a month or more ago. If AMD was in danger of having left over XP chips, they would have been dumping them in the gray market in order to make their stated goals. The dumping ( which we've seen before ) has the effect of lower pricewatch prices which I have been following for 3+ years. One thing to note though is that the shipping channels have been selling SDram based P4 systems in the 1.4-1.7Ghz range lately and they're asking $1599 and up. Obscene.
I used to see more AMD systems on QVC/HSN etc. I am a little worried when I don't see AMD represented there as it used to be. If we don't start seeing XP in the next 2 weeks I would be dumping my AMD shares since that would mean that Intel is winning the Xmas market.
