I don't think Aussie BHP or the Polish firm are potential suitors but Grupo Mexico and Penoles sure could be. At one time (now ancient history) both were American and foreigner owned but were effectively nationalized and then placed into Mexican hands. I think they are now generally considered to be independent Mexcian based multi-national corporations.

Mexican mining law was modernized in the early 1990's and as a result there was a brief exploration boom in the 95-97 period. There are some challenges there (the ejido system is used to effectively extort operators for the benefit of Mexican elite) but in the overall climate ratings I've seen, Mexico is always near the top. As elsewhere things have gone a bit dormant with the collapse of worldwide mineral exploration and development.

I've done a lot of homework (including the opportunity to converse at some length with some old Mexico hands) of late on Mexico, and feel it may well be in the 00's what the Carlin Trend was in the 80's. Many of the best plays are junior owned, and this is the ground floor. I've placed some of my biggest bets on companies like BAY, FGX, MFL and NGT. I'm looking for an good entry into GNG.
