Well...in a way. It would be a flat tax collected by businesses. The logic behind this is simple. Collect at the cash register and have the IRS deal with business owners.

The result would be

1) Easier collection - businesses have more assets than individuals do in many cases - this excludes ENE.

2) No sympathy - I feel rotten when a buddy gets audited but the general Bad guy image of the IRS would go away if the Tax payers knew a business was cheating

3) Fewer accounts to cover. Right now they collect from pay....so everyone who works pays....thats a lot of accounts to check.

4) Black market money - No longer does drug money and other black market money go untaxed. You play - you pay!

5) Its a smart tax - You pay based on what you use. I'm sure much like sales tax certain items such as food would be exempt but this is a tax based on consumption of goods. It's progressive IMO.

I'm sure there are many other benefits and pitfalls that I haven't thought of but I think it's the way to go.
