The major problem I have with any systemic change to our tax system is the transition. How does the government ensure a smooth transition to a flat income tax or to a consumption based tax that makes sure there is no major disruption to the revenue stream? Very difficult to do.

The state where I live has no income tax, which I like. We're still one of the highest taxed states in the country, with very high sales tax and a variety of other bizarre tax schemes on businesses. I can't support any move to an income tax because I don't trust the politicians to impose an income and reduce the other BS taxes we have to pay.

(aside - since a good portion of my annual income is made fighting with the IRS, it's in my best economic interests that the tax system stay as complicated as possible)
