Mary, <Especially in business, a lot of nasty people often succeed.>

That all depends on what your definition of "success" is. I don't know whether you judge Jerry Sanders to be successful or not. Certainly he's a real rags-to-riches story, somewhat like Andy Grove in that aspect.

But one problem with AMD is that the whole structure is supported and sustained by its CEO. Paul put it eloquently and colorfully in this post:

Message 16725353

When (or if) Jerry Sanders retires, there will indeed be a huge vacuum in upper management. So if AMD collapses or drifts aimlessly along after Jerry Sanders retires, will he have been successful?

P.S. - I'm wondering why you lumped Leona "Only little people pay taxes" Helmsley in with other "nasty people [who] do quite well in the business world." Isn't she serving time right now?

>Good psychological profile of Jerry Sanders.

Speaking of which, I'm doing a college presentation on AMD in about two weeks... among other things, I'd like to explore Sanders's psyche, and am trying to paint a picture of him as a dichotomy of a fearless leader and a, well, for lack of a better word, a**hole. I'd like to include a number of quotes. The 'droids on Raging Bull have been a big help in helping me compile a number of quotes that I'd place in the "fearless leader" category, but little in the way of Sanders's constant mudslinging...

I figure that some of you might have a few bookmarks you can share with a new poster, I'm guilty of rarely bookmarking anything I read.

Thanks in advance,

Z
