I work for a huge company ( a subsidiary actually ) but our CIO is trying to push Athlon MPs and he's talking to the Corporate CIO in order to try to push Athlons also.

Why is he doing it? (i.e. Whats in it for him?) And which manufacturer of the servers is he pushing?

Constantine, like I asked Milo, I am wondering for what purpose these systems will be bought. Milo at least had an answer I could believe.

However, when you say they are trying to "push" Athlon systems, it sounds like your CIO is going against the wishes of a lot of others. That could easily cost him his job if things don't work out. Unless he's an AMDroid, I don't see why he'd bother taking the risk. A similar front end from a well supported OEM like Dell costs little more than one from Rackserver. The TCO would be similar, unless the Athlon rack has problems, at which point the TCO for Rackserver suddenly becomes much larger.
