Explosion Rocks Central Jerusalem, Many Casualties

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - An explosion rocked a busy pedestrian street in central Jerusalem on Saturday, causing many casualties, Israeli police and medics said.

``There are many casualties. It happened several minutes ago, There are ambulances at the site and on the way. It's not good,'' a spokesman for the Israeli Magen David Adom ambulance service told Israel Radio.

Moshe Suissa, a firefighter who arrived at the scene, told Israel Radio: ``There are many wounded, some dead. We can see bodies and parts of bodies. I think it might have been two suicide bombers who set off the bomb at the same time.''

Liron, a witness who had been sitting at a cafe along Ben Yehuda street, a popular pedestrian avenue full of shops and restaurants and usually packed on Saturday night, described the blast as ``a huge explosion.''

``People flew into the air and there are many people covered in blood,'' he said.

I'd soliciting views about what should happen to the young American man who has been fighting alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan.

My personal feeling is, if he's been affiliated in any way with Bin Laden and Al Queda, he should be prosecuted. Otherwise, they should hold him for questioning and, once that is done, give him a one-way flight to JFK and require him to help with cleanup of the WTC site.
