LTK007: Perhaps I am naive, but I would think that US Intelligence and reconnaissance flights would be able to detect and present credible evidence of whether Iraq was in the process of building an atomic bomb. Absent such evidence, I find no compelling reason to invade Iraq and stir up an international hornet's nest.

Invading Iraq as the second step in George Dubya's "War on Terrorism" is controversial and will find considerable opposition both internationally and within the U.S. The constitutionality of GWB beginning an undeclared war with Iraq without Congress is not a trivial matter. Again, absent an overt act of terrorism from Iraq, such a move will find little support (IMO). Additionally, it will create a distinct division between the President and Congress, which will render the remainder of his presidency ineffective, much as Bill Clinton's last 2-3 years were an exercise in futility.

In sum, whatever George Dubya thinks will be gained by invading Iraq will be more than offset by the ill will it creates both here and abroad.
