Ted, let me try this again.

Mani, you make me sound like an incorrigible kid. <g>

Man in Iran are not allowed to wear short pants in public. They are also not allowed to wear tight T-shirts in public. That is more strict than the western word. Same goes for women.

That makes it only worse, not better. The clothing laws seem to be unnecessarily harsh for both men and women. They are treated as if they are children in elementary school. Its unfortunate.

My point is, in Iran's BOTH man and women have stricter dress code and as far as the dress code is concerned, there is no more discrimination (between man and women) than exist in US.

Originally, I thought it was only against women. Because its against men doesn't make it okay in my mind. However, I don't want to flame the culture within which you were born. So let me just finish by saying that I have a problem when any religion gets into what I consider to be secular matters like dress.

Re <<By covering a person's face, you take away that person's identity....their sense of individuality.>>

Iran does not require women to cover their face. Nothing close to it.

I know that...I was saying it in general....in situations where it is required.

The other nite I heard an interesting comment from an Egyptian attorney. Many Muslim women cover their heads for religious reasons. She wears the scarf on her head for another reason. She finds that men treat her more like an equal when she wears it.
