Robert Barry,re:"terrorist thugs". For a moment, try to think you were Palestinian, now defines 'terrorist thugs'. And you know you don't have spy Satillites, cruise missles, ... Stealth bombers, night vision gargles... basically, you have no chance but to commit 'cowardice act' just to get a consolation price. We are blessed with all these nicessities, but maybe that's a bleesing in disguise. Never underestimates the nature's rule of 'check and balance'. Ever there is 'human history', no country has escaped the 'self destruction mode' when the schedule is here. Unless we(USA) are really, really BLESSED, I don't see (from what is happening in Hollywood, the political theatre) we are doing anything to escape the 'history wrath' of: 'wealth and prosperity never last 3 generations' (Chinese wisdom, probably there are similar wisdom in any countries that has 300+ years history). USA will pick up this wisdom, later.

The Taliban HAD a legitimate government in Afghanstan. What matters to me, and it should to most reasonable Americans, is the protection of America and the rest of the civilized world, from terrorist thugs, who want to destroy civilization as we know it. Many people felt precisely that way about the zionists in the middle east before caving into terrorism and forming the state of Israel. Who cares if a terrorist Palestinian State is legitimate? If they harbor many different groups of terrorists, some of whom were involved in the attacks against America, and certainly Israel, we don't care about "legitimate", we just care about "gone"! Does that also apply to Isreal? Obviously, I do not, however, If he were still alive, you could ask the same question of the first prime minister of Israel, and perhaps even the current one. Terrorism worked for Hitler and the Taliban, but eventually the civilized world rose up to defeat tyrants of terrorism. History proves its the application of terrorism, not terrorism itself that may succeed or fail in its goals. It was obviously successful for Israel and if we look back far enough, for America too. Also, don't forget that often, "what goes around, comes around", especially in the middle east.

I have a difficult time believing that a "Palestinian state" will make the slightest difference in the affair. The people behind these terrorist attacks (oops, "resistance"...) are not interested in a "Palestinian state", their goal hardly includes the Palestinian people per se. They want the destruction of Israel and the extermination of Jews. First, and foremost. The Palestinian people are to be brainwashed and used as expendable cannon fodder in this goal. The greatest gift that could be given to the Palestinian people themselves would be the extermination of Hamas and other terrorist groups behind the scenes, but that's a nearly intractable problem presently.
