Petz: I agree Duron is a total dud now, except for notebooks. About the only thing a desktop Duron is good for is upgrading an old 200 MHz FSB socket- A system with a weak power supply.

With AthlonXP prices being what they are, Duron has a new lease on life (as soon as the "old" Athlons are out of the way). If AMD can manage to keep AthlonXP prices high, there's plenty of room for Duron.

Petz,

"I agree Duron is a total dud now"

It seems that Duron prices are in free fall while Athlon XP prices remain stable.

See SystemLogic.net CPU/Memory Watch of December, 3: systemlogic.net

Just a few examples:

Duron 1000, retail price
Previous week: $75
This week: $49.98
(Duron 1100 stable at $89.49, however.)

Athlon XP 1800+, retail price
Previous week: $210
This week: $215
