I'm willing to look at a lot of alternatives...and I would even take the extra step at exploring the idea that the real solution is to be found on the front-end (cause) and not the back-end (punitive/rehabilitive). I disagree with you completely that what we have is worse than making slaves out of our prisoners. Again, my point, I am not willing to entertain slavery as a solution because of what it makes me, not because it may or may not provide a satisfactory resolution to the injustice of heinous crimes.
