If McKinley does not deliver, AND is not delivered shortly, I think it is a realistic possibility. If it happens, it would happen as part of house cleaning that would go together with departure of Craig Barrett. Another would be for a major vendor, like Compaq pulling the plug on the flow of red ink, which could start an avalanche of cancelations, and changing the attitude from actively working with Intel, funding the Itanium project, to something along the lines of wait and see.

Joe whatever you're smoking put it out and get some fresh air. McKinley is imminent and will knock your socks off. Barrett isn't going anywhere. Compaq already slit Alpha's throat so what are they gonna do? Fall in love with Hammer? I don't think so. They killed Alpha after seeing Itanium silicon and Hammer specs. If Compaq decides to wait and see just what are they waiting for? They're committed.

Itanium is for real Joe. Learn to live with it.

Joe - Re: "All I am saying that there is a non-zero probability that it will happen."

AMD may not go out of business next year - All I am saying that there is a non-zero probability that it will happen.

Joe - Re: "Every day that goes by, while Itanium is MIA, "

Are you suffering from a mental defect?

Two VERY HIGH END server and workstation software packages - Oracle 9i and ANSYS - were announced yesterday for the ITanium platform.

What platform do you think these were developed on?

Good guess - ITanium.

And just how could ITanium be MIA when it was used by Oracle and ANSYS to develop their software packages?

Did you and Dan3 have a recent deep emotional encounter?

Jozef, Re: "I am *not* saying that Itanium will get canceled. All I am saying that there is a non-zero probability that it will happen."

Here is a list of things that have a non-zero probability of the following happening tomorrow:

1) Me winning the lottery - twice.
2) The U.S. finishing the war on Afghanistan - and calling it quits.
3) A nuclear warhead being launched on a major world city.
4) A comet crashing into Earth, destroying all animal and plant life.
5) Dan3 saying something positive about Intel in one breath, and negative about AMD in the other.
6) Itanium being cancelled.

So what's your point?
