I read the paper and several net news sources and watch the 10 pm news every day. Also try to read to read Economist each week; not always successful.

I would guess that the percentage of independent thinking persons in the US that put in any effort is something less than 5%
And I think that statement is also true of every other country and society. Compared to world averages, I'd say the US is actually pretty good.

And if you wish to claim Mephisto as one of yours, you are certainly welcome to do so. I won't lay claim to her rightist equivalent, though.
