09:03 ET Oracle Corp (ORCL) 13.80: -- Update -- Merrill Lynch and Thomas Weisel are taking a skeptical view of Ellison's speech at OpenWorld yesterday: firms believe it could be quite difficult for ORCL to reach 50% operating margins, as the highest quarterly operating margin the co has reported was 41% and the highest annual was 35%; firms don't see any catalysts or improvement in financial model to justify such a margin expansion. In addition, Thomas Weisel notes that the co's 9iAS product may have trouble taking mkt share from IBM and BEAS, as ORCL is a late entrant in apps server mkt.
