When I mentioned Larry's comments to one of the consultants from Oracle who is working on the same project as I am, he answered, without hesitation, "They'll just fire 50 people..."

I'm sure it will take a lot more than the fully loaded cost of 50 employees to move the margins a dozen or so points, but there is something to it. Then again, if the 50 employees are in the same pay range as Jay Nussbaum (and I know several Oracle folks who are very sorry to see him go, and very interested to see where he is going), maybe that will do it.

PS: For anyone who (knows or) cares, I've been pleasantly surprised to see a lot of material on Oracle's web site with Steve Muench's name on it. Steve used to be one of the panelists on my Development Tools forum at the ECO conferences back when he was product manager for Forms. It's good to see that the Sedona project didn't finish him off. Now Steve is Oracle's XML guru. I'm looking forward to hearing/seeing more of him.
