good to see you posting again Heinz!

any thoughts on the total havoc AIDS will have on SA in the following years?

if gold is no longer needed for currency purposes, as in the past, do you still expect a rise in gold prices? what would be the stimulus?

hb -

Nice to see your posts again.

...and yes, it is of course true that SA inflation rates remain well above comparable industrial nation inflation rates, but the wage increases for the miners have been consistently exceeding the SA inflation rate since at least 1988. i expect this trend to continue, especially as the mining companies can easily afford these wage increases. ...

Would you judge that the local purchasing power increases of mine wages over that time lead or lag increases in unit labor productivity?

TIA, Don

Heinz, you've sold me. We are conducting a yard sale this weekend and then headed to Cape Town to buy one of those free houses <g>. Amazing and I hear it's nice climate?
I especially like the part about people picking up after me for $12 a day. No wonder your country is such as mess. Ever heard of a living wage? If I were there working for that, I'd be breaking in and stealing every thing you have as well.

What do you say: speculative run or massive capital flight? Looks like a lot of both. Is there any reinvestment back into SA, or are returns too low? Is this in any way tied to the resource depression? I reading where people are trying to get out of the country to go to England? I believe this is bearish, not bullish for SA miners as they are not in a sustainable position. They can't move their mines: stuck in place. Good selling opportunity to switch to non-SA, nonhedgers. Not too many of those are cheap either: I'd say NEM, IMG and the quality juniors is about all that's left.
