Hawkmoon, I'm actually wondering if you read the article I posted. Because, the article goes out of its way to criticize the way that particular case was handled.

It does say that in the vast majority of cases the courts were considered "fair", even by the Japanese who were on trial.

It was a balanced article. Pointing out some of the negative instances in history regarding military tribunals, while also showing the positive side.

My goal in posting the three or four articles, was to point out how you can have a viewpoint, and still not personally attack a person in an obvious attempt to throw political mud around.

Al Hunt is one of the most partisan left wingers in the media today. And his article should be viewed for just what it was. Political propaganda and nothing more.

Hawk,
i read the following statement on another thread...

I like what the guy's father said about him, that his son exercised bad judgement but that it wasn't treason. That's sort of like saying that premeditated killing is bad judgement but not murder.

expect much smoke.
i hear the guy's dad is an attorney.

how does a young man who grew up in two hotbeds of beatniks and peaceniks, mill valley and san rafael, get into this mess?

dad wants us to see his kid as a wayward mixed up lad.
we all need to realize that he volunteered for combat duty with a terror organization having the stated goal of destroying America. some of our soldiers who find themselves in combat today are younger than him.

this kid's wounds are the least of his problems...i expect him to receive very severe punishment. he took up arms against America.

i do not accept the argument that he did not expect or know that he would shoot at Americans....hell that is what OBL and his renegades are all about. i also expect a public trial that will provide a deterrent to other wayward california children. that trial could be held by the new afghani administration. he wore no uniform or clear insignia that i saw...he could be tried as a spy.

california has now filled their quota by proving us with three of these bozos:

the first was hanoi jane...nuff said.

the second was machine gun patty hearst of symbionese liberation army fame. the SLA was devoted to overthrowing the United States....here is a clip from their codes of war...

CONDUCT OF GUERRILLA FORCES TOWARDS THE ENEMY SOLDIERS AND PRISONERS

ALL USA MILITARY RANK AND FILE FORCES SHALL BE ALLOWED TO SURRENDER UPON OUR CONDITIONS OF SURRENDER,

the SLA terrorist org was founded during the early 70s...in the bay area by SDS students from berkeley and a prisoner up the road in vacaville prison.
the SLA folded when the 6 leaders were killed in a gunfight with police in california after a robbery. the SLA funded themselves by armed robbery of retail stores and banks. who can forget the pictures of patty holding a machine gun on defenseless civilians during one such robbery? did you know clinton issued her a full pardon on his last day in office, calling her a model citizen? she may have been a model prisoner...but convicted, machine gun toting, armed robbers who belong to an organization devoted to the overthrow of the USA by violent means are not model citizens.

now we are blessed with this john walker...this was no quick, dumb move by a kid...according to reports i have seen, walker received a year of terrorist training in yemen followed by more training in pakistan before fighting for the al qaeda terrorists in afghanistan. he knew what he was doing.
