Carolyn, our military is five times larger than the next closest ones and they are European allies France and Britain. How big of a force do you want! You are reading too much republican crap that serves only to pump up the defense business pork barrel which owns a good portion of Congress. We have MORE AIRCRAFT CARRIERS (12) THAN all other countries in the world combined. Our known enemies have ZERO Aircraft Carriers. We have 18 BOOMER(each capable of blowing the whole world to smithereens)subs in operation the rest of the world has ZERO. Our defense budget is greater than that of the next ten countries combined and eight of them are our NATO Allies and if you include Russia as an ally that makes nine of them allies. HOw big is big enough. And the crap about Reagan and the Soviets is hogwash, they collapsed because their economy went down the tubes and Reagan had nothing to do with it, it was sinking before he ever showed up. As for Sept. 11, our DEFENSE DEPT WAS ASLEEP, if it was 100 times larger it would have made no difference, and if the terrorists thought that Clinton was weak they would have attacked when he was President, they did it when they did because they were mad and ready. Before that they may have been ready but not mad enough. We do indeed have a large and powerful armed force. We need a smaller and stronger, more efficient quick striking military rather than a behemoth of unprecendented dimensions that's primary purpose is to justify it's existence. BTW, with all the downsizing of the military since Bush Sr. was President we now have more generals and admirals than anytime in US history including WWII Comments?
