Voice is portable.. High Speed Data is not!! Just no mass market for High Speed Wireless Mobile Data Services..

Not yet, it is coming to an international neighborhood near you. The technology can only get better from here on out. It is happening in conjunction with 802.11 service, and no matter what we do, it will happen. When it does, the public will decide which service they need and want, when and where. Personally I think both will be great, but Mobil communication is at the top of my list.

My investment is in QUALCOMM. I have put the bulk of my money in a technology that I believe in.

You MUST agree, Mobil, anywhere, anytime data/communication is preferable? I will agree that it is nice to "hook up" while drinking the swill, but 802.11 is not the "killer app".

I have a propensity to move. I give a good try at sitting still while on a tropical Pacific beach preferably without a communication device.

I disagree. Your point about not being able to use the video capabilities while driving is true, but there are many other uses that will make high speed data first desirable, then highly desirable and eventually indispensable. For example, it can be used while commuting on Trains, busses and subways. It can even be used by passengers in cars.

As business people begin to take their email with them in large numbers they'll find that the attachments are often the most important thing, and that email without them is impotent. Sure you can get an important email w/o attachments but something short and hot is more likely to come as call to the cell phone. Attachments are very difficult to replace with voice. As hard drives get smaller and cheaper, and as hand-helds get more common, there will be a large demand to replicate people's mail accounts on their hand-helds (and on laptops of course). This can be begun when you first get in the car and it will probably be done when you get out. Voila, you're up to date with everything, spreadsheets and powerpoints and all.

I'm not at all convinced that 802.11 will find a big market in public subscriptions. Seemed like a decent idea and the company that tried got lots of publicity, had relationships with lots of locations, including Starbucks, and still went belly-up. It could work but if a customer had to choose between wireless data available nearly anywhere vs only at a few crowded, public places, I think they'll choose wireless. After all, how can they download or browse their favorite sex site while at the coffee shop or the airport?

I'll mark that one down as a remark that will live into infamy. As a weather buff, I'd love to have real time access to scads of detailed satellite imagery, weather cams, surf cams, buoy data, ocean conditions etc. on a portable device while out in the field; as well as TV clips of breaking events if I want them, xmit and receive video from friends, lot of other stuff.
