Struggle against terrorism must continue says Clinton

Bill Clinton has been speaking in Glasgow about the war in Afghanistan.

He says America will win the conflict and its defences against future attacks at home will improve.

But he has also warned the struggle against terrorism will go on even after the end of the conflict.

He was speaking as he arrived at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel where he is to be guest speaker at a charity dinner for the Jewish National Fund.

Clinton told reporters: "I think we have to build a world where we have fewer terrorists and more partners, and that means we have work to do after this conflict is over that is every bit as important as what we are doing now."

Supporters of the Palestinian cause, including Labour MP George Galloway and Scottish Socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan, have criticised the event and the former President's decision to attend.

Protesters were planning to be outside the Glasgow hotel where Mr Clinton is due to speak.

The Jewish National Fund was set up 100 years ago to purchase land throughout Palestine in the hope that a state of Israel would one day be established.

Mr Clinton had flown into Scotland earlier and played golf at Turnberry in Ayrshire, before heading on to the Glasgow event.

He told reporters: "I'm glad to be back. I have had a wonderful time - it's a beautiful day."

Perhaps I have failed to keep up. But, what has Britain done with the 50 Taliban fighters who have already returned? I searched that site a little. Didn't see anything?
