I think pacificism only "works" if you have a few pacifists protected in a society that is largely not pacifist.


Good grief, girl! Pacifism "works" when a critical mass of people in the world becomes committed to it.

I think pacifism is bred of good times. It is much harder to be a pacifist when someone else is doing much better than you. In fact, it is probably less than ideal to be a pacifist in times when 'pacifists' are under attack. Better to go underground. Gandhi wasn't stupid, but the lasting effect of his works is yet to be reaped. The message was transmitted but has yet to be demonstrated to work with a credible and singularly motivated opponent. I'd feel a lot better if I saw a good example in nature.
