I don't think the deal falling apart will cause the stock to soar. It has risen considerably since the deal started to look iffy and would likely rise a little more, but I'd think most arbs are out or hedged, so there is likely little arb short covering move left in it. Longer term, I think this is a 2+2=3 deal, so if it dies and if the board then makes the necessary changes at the top, then HWP shareholders will be much better off. I also think that HP is better positioned for the future than CPQ, but reaching its potential requires a change of leadership (perhaps more precisely, requires leadership - period).

Please tell me one deal that CPQ has done that has succeeded? It's a dysfunctional company.
