Possible beneficiaries of capacity cuts would be MU in DRAM, and AMD, SSTI, SNDK, and FLSH in flash memory. 2:55PM Cirrus Logic (CRUS) 15.32 +0.96 (+6.7%): -- Update -- Salomon Smith Barney expects S&P MidCap indexers to buy approximately 215k shares of CRUS tonight after S&P increases the shares outstanding of CRUS in the index; increase is due to the 5.4 mln shares the co issued to acquire privately-held Stream Machine. 1:05PM Applied Materials (AMAT) 44.45 +0.88 (+2%): Sources at Banc of America telling us that firm's channel checks indicate that Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) placed a large order with AMAT; value speculated at roughly $100 mln. The comment is being viewed as a positive for both AMAT and LRCX (+2.7%); both stocks ticking to highs of the day. 12:30AM Sector Watch: Semiconductor : -- Technical -- Sector is posting a solid gain on the session with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index or SOX higher by 1.7%. Nonetheless, the group is edging towards its worst levels of the session, currently trading at 567. Watch for notable support at 559 which represents its 200-day simple moving average as well as yesterday's close. To the upside, look for initial resistance at today's intraday high of 575 followed by subsequent overhead in the range of 584/586. 12:22AM Intel (INTC) 33.52 +0.57 (+1.7%): Co researchers have released free software that enhances a wide variety of vision applications including gesture recognition, object tracking and face recognition. The software allows enables computers to recognize "depth" as well as "flat" images. 11:32AM Agilent Tech (A) 30.00 +0.05 (+0.2%): Reuters reports that co CEO sees orders at a plateau, with little change ahead; plans to breakeven in Q3 regardless of whether a 2nd-half rebound occurs.
