Asian Stocks Rise on U.S. Rate Cut; Tokyo Electron, TSMC Rally
By Tomoko Yamazaki

Tokyo, Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose, led by Tokyo Electron Ltd., Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and other computer-related companies as the Federal Reserve's 11th interest rate cut this year may boost demand for Asian goods.

Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average advanced 1.2 percent, while Taiwan's TWSE Index gained 2.6 percent. In Singapore, Venture Manufacturing Ltd. and other computer-related stocks limited losses in the Straits Times Index.

``The U.S. market initially reacted positively to the Fed's decision and comments,'' boosting confidence in their Japanese peers, said Hisanori Gondo, who manages $81 million in Japanese equities at ING Investment Management Ltd. in Sydney. ``Everybody wants to be overweight in techs these days on any dips.''

Gondo's weighting in computer-related stocks is above the MSCI Index's weighting in the group.
