What do you mean, "last moment"? Intel had the X-Box win for the past year at least. Any hint of an AMD based X-Box was a long time ago.

What does "last moment" mean anyway? There were 18 months between this "last moment" and the launch of X-Box, so a lot of details were still up in the air. The nForce was still being designed, and there was no prototype X-Box to speak of. (Hastily-assembled Duron boxes don't count as prototypes.)

Intel probably got wind of AMD's potential design win, put together a marketing task force, and presented Microsoft with a better proposal. What's wrong with that?
