After I sent that post I was afraid the paranoid RW would interpret it the way you did. I did not say, repeat did not, that Merry Christmas is anti-semitic. It's like anything else you say to people...make sure you know your audience or listener if you're going to say something that may be sensitive, eg sexist remarks, bigoted or racist remarks. I said that I was constantly amazed at the number of people who will, eg utter anti-semitic or racist remarks to a person they hardly know just assuming that the listener feels the same way they do. In a similar context why would you say Merry Christmas to a Hasidic Jew who is easily identifiable?? He may appreciate it but then again he may not.
