Question for the thread (I just bookmarked this thread last week so my apologies if this has already been covered):

I have a Windows ME desktop and will be acquiring a laptop (possibly with a docking station) as a second PC at home. I will be doing lots of CD burning, net surfing, and work (primarily using Microsoft Office Professional Edition) on the PC. Also use it to manage photos from digital camera, and kids use one PC or the other for school stuff and educational software. Occasional game playing, but not much.

My questions are:

Should I get Windows XP Home Edition or Professional Edition?

Should I get extra RAM?

What brands of PC should I avoid (the existing desktop is a P3 933 MhZ H-P Pavilion)?

Is it possible to network the two PC's together if I have one running ME and the other running XP?

Anything else I should consider?

Cost is not a big issue. Reliability and performance are more important.

TIA for any advice.
