Berezovsky Blames Moscow And Volgodonsk Bombings On FSB

Russian self-exiled tycoon Boris Berezovsky stated in a television programme on Friday that he believed that 1999's Moscow and Volgodonsk bombings were planed and organized by Russia's intelligence. Some 300 people were killed by the bombs. The Kremlin blamed the terrorist acts on Chechen rebels and returned its troops in the republic, beginning so-called antiterrorist campaign.

Berezovsky told he did not know whether Russian President Putin had ordered the terrorist acts or FSB planned it behind his back. He also said that he was absolutely sure about it and was ready to prove it in court.

Berezovsky was a one-time Kremlin insider but has fallen out with President Vladimir Putin. He left Russia and lives reportedly in London.

Alexander Litvinenko, a former serviceman of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), also made statements on links between FSB and the 1999 bombings. He also accused his commanders of plotting to murder Berezovsky in December 1997. The investigation into Berezovsky's claims that he was the target of a murder plot was opened in April 1998 but it was closed six months later for the lack of evidence.

In March 1999, military prosecutors arrested Litvinenko on allegations of power abuse. After his release, Putin dismissed Litvinenko as insulting. Litvinenko and his family arrived in London on November 2 last year and asked Britain authorities for political asylum.

Besides, I think the US's official scrapping of the ABM Treaty could trigger "stage II" of Russia's Terror Diplomacy... in Western Europe, that is.
