I could argue that your party was a sampling error too :)

When I look at other people I've met recently they are all happy at low interest rates, booming house prices.... an Indian computer guy who returned from two years in the US and plans to set up a business here.

The Labor party, after just losing the election is doing a fundamental reassessment of its whole approach. Wants to reduce its union links and move back on its whole anti-globalisation doom and gloom stance of the last 5 years. Polling shows that this just didn't click with the optimistic outlook of the electors who count.

The big event in my neighborhood is the major revamp and expansion of the main city center mall (Canberra Centre). Guys are working all weekend on the project. Finally the space of the former McDonalds restaurant in the center is back in use as a huge fancy two level up market cafe. Lots of other cafes opened on that street two in the last few months. All packed with people eating out.

What impressed me this week was how hard and expensive it was to get flights to the US....
