the economy is now
lacking a goal. Under Clinton's guidance the economy was investing in a tightly knit global structure. Bush seems determined to
put an end to that. That leaves the economy without a goal

Other than profit and growth, what should be the goal?

The best thing government can do for an economy is to stop being a parasite on it by taxing the people for it's own ineffient purposes and let "the people" decide how and wehere capital should flow. Capital, in the hands of the private sector will flow to those areas where shortages are present.

Government only gums up the works by flowing capital to where the votes are.
