Bob

Is the consensus here that XP rocks?

That's my opinion. In the last month I've had it on 4 machines and am very happy with it. I've had a few glitches (no BSOD's) but I attribute them to my own experimenting with various tweaks. I should know better by now.

Speaking of latency, a typical ping to a friend's machine about 20 miles away comes back in the 1000-1200 ms range. Big latency.

Just over a second - Not as high as I would think. I thought it would be 3 seconds.

XP ROCKS !!! imo - of course i did several quantum leaps, coming from pentium 2 and win 95. The system is powerful ( i have 1.6 P4 and 256 ram, XP home) - but the most impressive factor so far has been the smoothness and stability. have 4-5 programs running, quotes, IE, netscape, company system - no problemo. very orderly and logical system. absolutely no problem learning the new program - of course, i haven't dove very deeply yet. larry
