You are forgetting the January rally also left everyone flat footed. I remember like yesterday all the screaming on CNBC how the Jan rally left everyone flat footed. <<<<

Dood, i think you got your sentiment signals crossed the january rally topped with the highest investor's intelligence readings since the 98 top and with rydex ratios that rivaled the sept and march 00 tops.

there was a universal consensus then that the fed was lowering rates and we were back on the highway to heaven.

now after 11 rate drops, the fed is impotent to stop the market slide, just as the fed was impotent to stop the market rush with rate hikes in 99.

f, the govt' stimulus package, the biggest stimulus package is cheap energy, it may be even bigger than rate cuts, that costly energy choked off the rumble into 00, and further constricted the economy with the phantom energy crises created by enron and their cronies in the spring.

and as for tech, somebody with better data may need to back me up on this, but i'll bet the corps haven't upgraded en masse since the CPU was rated at 500-800 mhz.
