the deployment to a forward operating base at Camp Doha in Kuwait of the 3rd US Army Headquarters

Jim,
the 3rd army has maintained a substantial presence in kuwait all along. i understand that they moved from camp doha to a new military facility further north recently(why doesn't the reporter know that?).
we have enough gear stored there for a brigade sized unit...it includes...
100 M1A1 Abrams tanks.
30 Bradley Fighting Vehicles.
80 Armored Personnel Carriers.
12 Paladin 155mm Howitzers.
9 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems.
48 Armored Command Vehicles.
30 bulldozers and bridge layers.
150 trucks and Humvees.

we conduct regular training missions to kuwait. the equipment is maintained for immediate war use. a forward visit/inspection by a senior general would not be unusual.

considering how much of this threat is ME centered, i would not consider our combat units training for desert warfare since 9/11 to be unusual either.

if we could track the advance recon and command elements of our combat divisions..we could begin to make educated guesses. i am certain that many of our units have been alerted for quick deployment...including some armored units at ft hood. i have step-brother who is a tank platoon sergeant there. he recently made detailed arrangements for family to take care of his children. that is not surprising either...i am sure we have at least a coupla divisions in designated reserve to cover afghanistan operations.

i just don't feel that an article based on a well known preposition of equipment and a senior visit are enough to predict an attack on iraq from kuwait. besides we no longer have the armed forces necessary to duplicate our first war against iraq's forces.

i do agree that turkey is a key to all of this. turkey is very pro American. they have fought with us in the past. they are geographically situated on key strategic terrain sharing long borders with syria, iran and iraq. and turkey is easily accessible by our substantial prepositioned forces and supplies in the mediterranean.
