The one bit of news that could push the market higher is the stimulas package. Might be a breakthrough according to CNBC (which quoted a story in tomorrow's WSJ). Could counter the negative afterhours news.

I believe that plan also calls for accelerated write offs of new equipment like computers as well. That is good news for this industry and may keep the demand from falling off too much early in the new year. It has been consumer driven in the 4th quarter as suggested by Circuit City and Best Buy's earnings. We do have the potential for corporate buying if companies are seeing some stabilization in their businesses (generally).

Considering the number of triple witch weeks that have been negative, we could just be due for a big up week.

It seems that too many are aware of the past market patterns for it to actually turn out this way:

1. Japan/Nasdaq comparisons--market pattern post bubble bursting
2. April rally followed by selloff.
3. triple witching down big 4 quarters in a row.
4. consensus among TA that a pullback near term is in the cards
5. Bulls think the market has gotten ahead of itself
6. maybe the ammunition required to sink the markets is just not there anymore. Too many short positions have already been taken, in anticipation of the correction.

Just my observations..and of course I might be way off base here.

JMHO.

AJTJ99: This star, if it develops as it appears, has excellent structure. I might even consider it a doji evening star, especailly on the NDX. Nice gap up yesterday after the white candle. No shoulder rest. And now a nice gap down today is in the cards. And it is significant that it might well appear at a lower high IMTO. Evening stars have marked intermediate tops all throughout this bear market in the Nasdaq. Bears have the set up. Let's see what they can do with it.
