Cohen--one of the country's top military experts. in an ideal world, would be in Wolfowitz's job, or Rumsfeld's. Someone should post his WSJ Iraq piece from today.

Who dat? Steven? Don't know the name. The remaining are all familiar names. Thanks for the time, effort, etc.

The one I find the scariest among the set is Bolton. Never seen him on TV but best I can tell he's the key player in issues like disarmament; Rumsfeld's guy in Powell's shop. Wonder why Powell allowed that?

Kristol, because of his TV appearances, is someone I read, listen to. Always disagree but, on occasion, learn.

Oh, yes, the book. Still reading. Introduction was interesting but nothing new; Jenkins was surprisingly well written (some prejudice there on my part) but nothing new; Foud Ajami's piece is the worst I've read by him--one of his faults is a tendency to reach for poetry before he gets his point clear--in this essay he skims way over all the particulars trying to reach the poetry--not much help; the Doran piece is the cream of the early set.

That ended it for my over the weekend work. On this early evidence, I would guess the book might have a long history (three or four years) as a basic text for certain kinds of political science undergrad courses, some multidisciplinary courses on terrorism, and on international relations.

More?

John

tb,

insiders...

Rumsfeld...(leads him to place excessive confidence in missile defense).

much too soon to make that judgement...for now he wants to take a hard look at the possibilities through an initial investment in a feasibility study and a prototype for testing.

Wolfowitz dangerous if given power.

pure speculation... he has no power...he is number 2.

Bolton shouldn't be in the job he's in.

a minor player

Cheney...can probably be counted on not to do much that's really stupid.

he was brilliant in his previous positions both in government and business, where he was the man in charge...as VP he is just a bride in waiting but he is certainly capable of stepping up to the plate if necessary. his lifetime of experience and long string of previous successes make him an excellent guy to have in decision meetings.

Bush has good instincts, but doesn't know much.

he knows the most important thing is to surround himself with brilliant, experienced and respected advisors. he has done a fantastic job of assembling a winning team both locally and on a worldwide basis.
btw...that is called leadership.
and i won't even mention restoring worldwide respect to the Presidency of the United States of America.

Powell-- too cautious

not only a really smart guy respected by all of the players...Colin is always a voice of reason a pretty durn good trait for a SecState.

Haass...important antineocon player.
Perle...smart but wacky

careful...your dirty political underwear is starting to show.

outsiders...
Cohen--one of the country's top military experts. in an ideal world, would be in Wolfowitz's job, or Rumsfeld's.

Cohen already had his turn at Rumsfeld's job and blew it. surely you don't think we should revert back to the failed policies of the past 8 years.

ps...you did mean that cohen right?
