Actually, the 900MHz Xeon has 8 times as much L2 cache as the Celeron chips you mention. The Itanium can have as much as 16 times as much L2 cache. Contrary to what you may believe, simply increasing the cache associativity does not make up for having a small amount of cache to begin with. But why should I bother trying to convince you of the facts when you've already made your mind up? Just continue to believe that the Celeron outperforms the Itanium in back-end database work. You've convinced yourself of sillier things in the past.
