Remember, even though FDR is the king of deficits, his failed programs actually made the economy worse through much of the period before WWII.

And it was FDR's failure to grasp the nature of Stalin that caused the US to spend trillions defeating the USSR. So, in reality, virtually all the deficits from 1932 on are FDR's.

And don't even mention the Social Security debacle FDR saddled this generation and succeeding ones with.

Sorry, but that is a meaningless charge. Most of the Clinton budgets were in deficit, too. Arguably, the Republican Congress deserves credit for reversing that trend. Prior to the surplus, it had been about 20 years ('69) since the last balanced budget, and most post- War budgets were in deficit. If deficits were all it took for prosperity, we would have never had any recessions since the '20s.......
