pAUL,

re:"Compaq now shipping ITanium Servers."

Sure Paul, whatever you say.

The article said: "Compaq Starts Production on Server"

Wonder what they might find wrong this time before it ships?

Paul, Re: [from article]"I'm always kind of wary of any new technology that hasn't proven itself in the marketplace," said Lee Johnson, CAD support specialist for Western Star Trucks, in Kelowna, British Columbia. "Hearing that there are problems with [Itanium] just compounds that wariness."

And if they feel wary about Itanium - how will they feel about an unproven Hammer? Another year of Itanium on the market may quell some of the fears that businesses are having about Itanium's reliability, but how long will it take AMD to prove that their server CPU is anything more than a pet enthusiast project?

Paul, Re: "Compaq now shipping ITanium Servers."

Yup. Some of them are apparently going to Well's Fargo - one of the largest banks on the West Coast.

“Compaq and the Itanium processor technology will enable my group at Wells Fargo to significantly enhance its ability to understand and serve its customers through higher MIS productivity, increased efficiency, and reduced implementation time.... We are confident that the Compaq Itanium™-based server technology will enable Wells Fargo to undertake projects such as large scale, highly structured statistical modeling of customer data that are currently very difficult to implement.”
