Not off-topic, but perhaps adrift: I'd like his points better if they didn't all lead to the conclusion that Israel should be dismantled and five million Israeli Jews left to the tender mercies of Arab rule.

Just to clarify:

Though Len has questioned the legitimacy of Israel being plunked down by the UN onto that turf - a point made by many for many years - I don't recall him saying they should be subject to Arab rule.

I can readily concur that undoing that decision and dismantling Israel is neither practical nor desirable. I also do not enter the discussion with a pat hand that I wish to play and persuade others to my point of view.

Which is not to say I don't have opinions, some strong, and some that can shift as knowledge grows or fresh events create the need.

I simply believe that open communication and debate can close gaps. Len's posts don't strike me as the work of a Jew-hater but as one who finds some transparencies in some pro-Jewish arguments. He may be right or wrong in those assessments. I've been wrong in some of mine because of gaps in my knowledge; when I fill those gaps, I adjust my positions to reflect the greater understanding.

Granting validity to some points well made, imo, furthers discussion and learning, which I find crucial with topics that are often so contentious that debate breaks down, potshots begin, and corpses pile up.

Unless we're in the frontlines and events demand action instead of words, I hope, in this forum, for a full and fair discussion that yields nuggets we can glean, that yet may lead to the necessary compromises where workable solutions can emerge.

I also believe in Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny <GG>, that moments of silliness provide pressure relief valves to deservedly serious topics, and that granting consideration to points made by someone I don't entirely agree with grants respect where it is due.

I'm not always in agreement with you, Ken, tekboy, JohnM, unclewest, Condor, others (or even myself!), but while I may critique those differences, I try to expend as much effort on points of agreement.

I'd like two cards please...
