You've come a long way in a year, dude.

Profitable message boards? Of course not.
Profitable financial community/message board? Possible, if it's run and designed right.
Profitable site with a large community as a component a part of it? Yes, easily.

If you don't mind me saying so, you and bobby z. should get on the horn and work things out if you haven't already. You seem like two guys who could probably make something work, better together than apart.

Or not. Either way, Merry Christmas.

Matt --

Right -- you're too young. <g>

Very early on, like the early 80s, there were people running bulletin boards off personal computers. Entirely text, running on excruciatingly slow modems. But they did work. Not internet. You had to dial their number, so pay for a toll call from your computer. They had to have an incoming line for each modem. Most sites had two or three modems. Quite a few even ran off floppy disks. Yep. You remember those. 8" floppy disks holding 64K or then later up to a whole 360K and then, wowzie, 720K if they were double sided.

The most "popular" boards I read and posted on back then might have a whole 50 posts in a day.

Not an eaa I, personally, am much excited to return to.

Are you referring to Usenet?

Yes, Usenet is oblivious to SI punks. It is also there to use at zero expense.

Ask now how many of the SI members who post on this thread minus your business partners will pay for a membership for any site. I won't is 1.

Usenet is and will always be in place, free...in one form or another.
