Hi David, It is 14 degrees Celsius in HK this morning. I woke up one and half hours later than normal at 7:30am, flipped the reverse cycle aircon to ‘heat’ (HK fireplace) and set the music box to that anachronistic service known as radio which surprises me at each turn on choice of tunes. Today will be a day for gift exchanges, written communications, music, phone calls, ice coffee, walking the in-laws’ dog, visiting the neighbor’s Christmas ‘walk-in’, making salad, party, and watching a DVD (The Man who loved Women by Francois Truffaut).

I get creative in food preparation once per year, and today is it: sunflower seed, grilled garlic chips, raisins, mango, cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomato, black olives, mushrooms, watercress, endives, chicken strips, Italian sausage, all lightly heated, topped off with a dash of ‘Western cynicism, Eastern endurance, and spiced with the ineffable Caribbean picaresque spirit’ (picked up this last gem from an incoming e-mail – this is turning into an excellent day).

My wife will be responsible for saving the guests from my creation with her Mediterranean salad dressing, and in-laws will save all from my wife and I with real food.

Do enjoy your round-the-globe romp, and do report your observations to this thread. I have a feeling that, should SI survive, we are all going to be liming here for a long time, growing old together, and learning from Maurice. Happy holidays to you and the thread. Jay
