OLDTRADER:<<<RE:Kemble-Who in the hell is Mary Clooney?-">>>

The spelling is wrong, but what the heck, I am just one irate customer. There are many others.

First of all, I ordered a notebook computer and digital camera for delivery before Christmas. It was not until after promised delivery date that I tried order status inquiry. There they tell me the order will be shipped in 3 parts. The tracking system noted that the digital camera will not ship until next year.

After numerous telephone calls to Dell, (their phone system is designed to discourage irate customers from getting to a human operator). The only way to get to a human is to call sales where operators are taking orders for products they can or can not deliver.

Finally I get a Fedex tracking number for the computer, but when I went into the Fedex tracking system, they informed me that that number was not yet in their system. Apparently Fedex gives out prenumbered tracking numbers to their large clients, thinking that they would use it responsibly.

Getting back to Dell and getting hold of a human is almost all but impossible. When I do, I get transfered (I fall for this each time) to a person who will straighten things out, but it turns out to be a voice mail system that goes into an endless loop.

After numerous tries, I get to a human and ask them what the back order policy is and they tell me. But when I ask them to repeat this in an email to me (So I can document my problem) they tell me they can't get to an email system.

This happened more than once. Can you beleive that in this day and age, there is a company that is doing business on the Internet and where no employee can get to an email system and to confirm what they just told me concerning the back order system?

Finally I tried to cancel the digital camera portion of the order (the part that won't ship until the New Year and even there they can't make any promises) and they tell me it is out of their control. They can't cancel the order. I asked them to send me an email to that effect, and they tell they do not have access to email functions.

I repeat this process with the supervisor and go through this again and they again tell me again they have no ability to send me an email. I told them each and every time, that I wanted an email record of our communications - but they told me they do not have access to email.

Does an ethical company have a policy to not communicate honestly with their customers?

Does this kind of stuff happen when a company has an efficient computer system?

I am willing to bet any amount of money that Dell's computer system cannot pass muster in any independent audit system.

I am willing to make this bet even though I know you can pay enough money to any audit company and they will give you some wishy washy statement that sounds as if it had passed audit (as Enron did). But if you read all the footnotes, I guarantee, Dell's computer will have thousands of pages of failures. And, if they spent enough money, they could get thousands of pages of recommendations for a better system.

The only trouble is, if they fix their computer system, they would have to fix everything else about the company.

But to give Dell his due, this is a company that literally grew out of room in a dormitory. That is quite an achievement.

But too bad he has gotten too fat, too rich, and too soon. Nothing is ever going to change at Dell. It will only get much worse.

They have lousy ethics.

Mary

BTW: I was a Dell investor with more than 4 digit number of shares. I have since sold all.
