Joe,

You wrote ". I stopped by CompUSA, and it was all Intel except a lone 1.3 GHz HP Athlon, somewhat obsolete"

I purchased a laptop five days ago and had the same experience. I wound up buying my laptop at Best Buy which had mostly AMD based laptops for _far_ less than CompUSA.

Indeed, the cheapest laptop at CompUSA that fulfilled my requirements cost $1399.00. The cheapest at Best Buy that did everything I wanted cost $749! Of course, the laptop is Duron based and is extremely fast. I'm delighted with it.

Mike

Joe, re: <I stopped by CompUSA, and it was all Intel except a lone 1.3 GHz HP Athlon, somewhat obsolete, and there were maybe 2 or 3 notebooks (out of 12).>

I find it hard to reconcile your observations with the truth.

The P4 is not doing so good 'cause they have a supply problem. That means inventories are low and those weren't really P4s sitting on the shelves.

I don't know what you saw but it wasn't shelves full of P4s.
