here's another FWIW. I usually don't wait until the last minute to shop for items -- but this year did some shopping on the 24th. Last year I do remember the look of WMT as I picked up food items -- many shelves looked like they were "picked over" - some items were clearly sold out

Definetely not the case this year. Also, there was no mad last rush -- I went to WMT, KSS, TGT and Barnes and Noble to get some items. I was amazed to find that I was never back more than 1 -- in line.

These places put on the help for a rush, that didn't come.

Two exceptions I think are CC and BBY -- I visted these earlier in the month and thye were jam-packed and woefully understaffed for the volume of business being done. I wouldn't be surprised if they lost some biz as people got fed up with the wait.

It is funny that this season saw such strong demand for electronics relative to other goods ... games were big, I think. I think clothing retailers are going to show rather disappointing results.

The sales in Jan and Feb should be great as they try and move what's left.
