Self-interest, I agree. Enlightened, not always. Our embargo of Cuba is not enlightened. The Vietnam War was not enlightened. The invasion of Grenada was not enlightened. Our position on the Canadian softwood lumber dispute (a huge issue up here in the Northwest) is not enlightened. Our support of various banana republics in Central America over the past 100 years has not been enlightened. I love my country. And I love my wife. But I don't pretend that either is perfect, or without flaws. As far as my wife, I keep my mouth shut. As for my country, I speak out. Therein lies the difference between how to treat your country and your wife. <bg>
