Does this mean that any laws the US passes that directly or indirectly affects its trade with another nation is "putting a gun to its head"? Because this was a discussion about "strong arming".

Laz, we're not talking about our laws. We're talking about Canadian laws. Some voices are saying that we must force Canada to change its immigration laws to confine immigrants pending acceptance rather than letting them run around loose. Canada has a different immigration culture than we do. When we tell them what laws they must pass we are, at best, cultural imperialists. Better that they let their own legislative deliberative process work this out unimpeded by our gun to their head.

We don't have a problem with Canada.

Yes, nor they with us, and wouldn't it be nice to keep it that way.
