Is there a Win2k and a Win2k Pro? What are the differences and should I care?

Hihub Matt,

I just got a Compaq Presario 5103 for Christmas from a son & his wife. It is one of their older ones and has Win98 and a whole lot of stuff already on the hard drive. I bought a 19" MAG Innovision monitor for it and it worked fine out of the box. It seems to have installed itself fine.

I have several questions:

As I did not get any manuals with this computer, is there a good learning book, maybe Wintel for Dummies <g>, or are CD courses like the Video Professor worth the money for learning the ins & outs of Wintel eccentricities? I have used Mac's before and never really had any problems, but who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth?

Any opinions on JUNO as an ISP? I am in California and don't even know if they service here with a toll-free phone no. Son swears by them but I am not against a 2nd and third opinion. I just want email and to surf the internet and I'm not concerned about all the doodads and geegaws of AOL and the like.

How do I determine if I have the orignal programs loaded on my drive or 'extra' copies? I don't want to have a bunch of heat come down on my son or me when upgrade time comes. Windows 98, Office 2000, etc.

That's enough for now; I will likely have only 2 or 3 ............. thousand more questions before I'm through. I'm still using my WebTV for now so if I have to chat real time about a result of some action on the computer to help me get a question answered, I can do both simultaneously; I have MSN Messenger (v.3.5, not the newest version) on the WebTV unit. I hope this is a reasonable approach because it makes me feel comfortable and besides I haven't signed up with an ISP yet.
